Physical Education
At Newark Hill, we believe that physical and sporting activities have an important role to play in the physical and social development of the child. As a Health Promoting School, promoting good and healthy lifestyles forms an integral part of our curriculum, where, we believe, PE should develop not only sporting skills, but also children’s confidence and skills in teamwork, communication and co-operation. Children have the chance to take part in a range of competitive sports and clubs, and often participate in sporting events against other schools. If a child is to be excused from physical activities, for medical reasons, a note should be sent to their class teacher.
Physical Education
The Q.C.A. scheme forms the basis for all PE and Games activities and each class is time-tabled for Physical Education sessions in the hall, studio or outdoors, on a weekly basis. Through the teaching of the PE and Games curriculum children are able to experience a range of individual and competitive team games, gymnastics, dance, summer sports and swimming activities. (In Years 4 and 5 pupils receive swimming tuition in either the Autumn or Summer Terms. All children are asked to bring a swimming costume and towel). Athletics skills are practised in the Summer Term, leading to participation in inter-house competitions and the annual school Sports Day competitions. We also provide a range of clubs for after-school sports.
If you wish your child to be excused from physical activities for medical reasons, please send a note to their class teacher.
